Yes, it does snow in Tennessee. I moved hereStethoscope Tennessee Volunteers shirt from Buffalo about 12 years ago. When I saw they closed schools over the threat of a dusting, I thought it was a joke. The grocery store shelves empty at the mention of snow. Everyone talked about the storm of ‘93, two feet of snow overnight. A sizable snowfall. That shut down the area for well over a week. When I experienced my first Tennessee “storm”, it consisted of 1 1/2 – 2 inches. It shut down everything for a day or two. Roads don’t get plowed, only one or two small plows for the city. State highways get salted or sanded at intersections only. Even if you have the experience of driving in snow, don’t bother, the store you are going to will be closed. Coming from an area where a foot of snow rarely delays schools from opening on time, it seemed crazy. Now I just take the days off in stride, it will melt soon. It never stays for long. I left my snow shovel in NY and haven’t missed it.

My husband and I moved to Chattanooga, TennesseeStethoscope Tennessee Volunteers shirt in June 1993 from just outside Portland, Oregon so that first two things we experienced were culture shock along with oppressive heat and humidity. On the plus side, we immediately were taken in by GREAT music everywhere and the benefits of a city much smaller than Portland. On the Culture Shock side of things, we weren’t used to how much religious conservatism there is in TN, particularly in small towns and rural areas. As the cities become larger, they become more liberal socially and more tolerant. We saw this first hand in Chattanooga over the 25 years we’ve lived here.
